Credit Suisse Habitat Build in Thailand 2017

Help us raise $23,000

Thailand has achieved remarkable progress in economic growth and poverty reduction since the 1980s. However, the regions in the deep south and northeast, as well as some ethnic groups, are not benefitting equally from the country’s economic success. More than 80 percent of the country’s 7.3 million poor people live in rural areas and a third are currently in urban areas outside of Bangkok. Increased urbanization, coupled with insufficient planning, has contributed to the creation of slums in major cities, particularly in the Bangkok metropolitan region. Disasters such as droughts and devastating flooding also affect many low-income families making it more difficult for them to own safe and disaster resilient homes.

Ayutthaya is 76 kilometers north of Bangkok and boasts numerous magnificent ruins which indicate that it was formerly one of Indo - China's most prosperous cities.  The city was founded in 1350 by King U-Thongis and was the capital of Thailand for 417 years. The ruins of the old capital in the Ayutthaya historical park have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since December 1991.  Despite being a popular tourist destination, a great percentage of the population still lives in poverty and is in need of safe decent housing.

Credit Suisse aims to help low-income families in Ayutthaya have safe decent homes by mobilizing its employees to contribute their time and resources for a 3-day build working side-by-side with partner families.

Join the Thailand volunteering trip and experience the joy of sharing and helping families build strength, stability, and self-reliance through housing. Build information:
